1935 Darrow/Parker Brothers Hybrid Game

When Charles B. Darrow sold the Rights of the Game of Monopoly to Parker Brothers (PB) on March 19, 1935, he had already sold approximately 1,600 of the 7,500 sets of his Second Generation game. The remaining 5,900 sets were turned over to Parker Brothers, and since PB did not want to lose market momentum, they used Darrow's sets, put a PB Trade Mark label on the Board and inserted the first PB Trade Mark instructions in the small black box. The Board label had NO RED BORDER and is the only time PB did this. Also, all the components remained the same including NO Tokens and the Bone Dice until PB started the manufacture of its Trade Mark series. The term 'Hybrid Game' is a collectors' term and not a PB term. It is also thought (though not confirmed) that once the Parker Brothers Trade Mark Boxes hit the market on May 31, 1935, all the remaining Darrow Boxes and Boards were destroyed.
